The Bavarian Administrative Court ranked shoe stores as establishments providing the population with essential goods. Therefore, by a court decision, shoe stores are equated in status with haberdashery, construction and can work on an equal footing with them.

Footwear suitable for the season and size is the “basic need” of the population, as well as a necessity for the implementation of various professions, and, importantly, for sports. The need and urgent need for new shoes can occur in the short term in children and adolescents.

On this basis, the Bavarian Administrative Court ruled that shoe stores, such as baby stores, could also open in regions where the seven-day morbidity rate exceeds the “alarming limit” of 100 cases per 100,000 population.

The decision only affects shoe stores in the federal state of Bavaria.

In the actual case, a chain of shoe stores from the Schuh Mücke district has applied to the court. As BR reported today, the chain’s branch in Schweinfurt opened today at 9:30 am.
