From September 1, Saxony will impose a fine of 60 euros for violating the requirement to wear a protective mask or bandage covering the mouth and nose. This was announced by the Minister of Social Affairs Petra Kepping after a cabinet meeting.
The Cabinet of Ministers is to make this decision next week. According to Kepping, there are many complaints that many residents do not adhere to the rules for wearing masks on local public transport, as well as in shops. The fact that some citizens are exempt from wearing masks – people with a doctor’s permission and disabled people – is not disputed. From July 18, further reliefs were introduced in the federal state.
Since the beginning of the pandemic (as of August 17), 239 infections have been recorded in Saxony. However, most of the patients are already healthy. Fairs and festivals are allowed – also subject to an approved security concept and a maximum number of visitors up to 1,000. From September 1 also more than 1,000 people, if it is possible to trace contacts.
From July 18 sporting events with up to 1,000 spectators are again permitted – with an approved safety concept. Popular and club sports competitions with up to 50 participants do not require an approved hygiene concept.
From September 1 large and sporting events with more than 1,000 people can be held if contact can be traced and safety rules are observed.
