Due to the coronavirus pandemic, entry to Germany was also banned for immigrants from non-EU countries. The head of the Federal Ministry of the Interior Horst Seehofer has again allowed entry for Jewish immigrants, reported to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The Central Council of Jews welcomed the minister’s decision. “We are very pleased that the federal government reacted quickly and did not allow Jewish immigrants to stand in front of a closed door,” said council president Josef Schuster.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in accordance with the recommendation of the European Union, Jewish immigrants coming to Germany, mainly from Ukraine and Russia, were temporarily unable to enter Germany due to the restrictions imposed. Despite the fact that the epidemiological situation remains unstable, the federal government, for humanitarian reasons, agreed to make an exception.
