─ Good afternoon, “MK-Compatriot”!
Thank you for the opportunity to contact you for advice.
I have such a situation. I graduated and am now on parental leave (Mutterschutz). I completed my studies very successfully, passed the exams, being already on maternity leave. Unfortunately, my contract with the employer ended immediately after I passed the exams. That is, there is no work now. And, although the company wanted to take over me, because of the pandemic, this did not work out. Due to pregnancy, I could not find a job. And during the coronavirus crisis it was extremely difficult. Right now I only receive benefits Mutterschutzgeld…
An important detail: I do not live with the child’s father. It so happened, he didn’t want to. And okay, we don’t need such a dad. It is important for me to understand whether I can file for alimony, both for myself and for a child who will soon be born? If so, where can I go for this? What can I count on?
Thanks for answers.

─ Dear Maria!
If a child is born out of wedlock, you can request that the father of the child acknowledge paternity. Or paternity can be established by court. The father of the child can be required to pay maintenance, both for the child and for the mother while caring for the child (up to the age of three). To carry out all the procedures, you need the help of a family lawyer.
