The federal government has enacted new rules for compensating workers in the event of loss of earnings, as well as terms for financial aid to clinics and measures to prepare for planned vaccinations. The Bundestag and the Bundesrat have agreed on legislative changes to take the next steps needed during a pandemic.
Thus, payments of compensation to parents will be extended until March 2021. They will be paid now also in the event that it is necessary to look after a child who is quarantined by the Ministry of Health and is forced to stay at home. Until now, compensation could only be obtained if schools or kindergartens were closed, and no other supervision was possible. Parents who are unable to go to work because they need to look after their children can now receive compensation equal to 67 percent of their net income.
The rules for residents of the country returning from foreign risk zones have been tightened. In the event that the entrants were on an “avoidable trip”, they will no longer be compensated for loss of earnings after returning for the entire time they were in quarantine. This rule does not apply to people forced to visit a risk zone abroad due to “exceptional circumstances” such as the birth of their own children or the death of close relatives. No exceptions are made for travel to private celebrations, vacation travel and business trips that could have been avoided.
