Residents of Germany in need will soon be able to get ten FFP2 masks for free. This decision was taken after the federal authorities obliged residents of the country to wear medical masks, and in Bavaria – exclusively FFP2 masks, in public transport, churches and shops. Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil and Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn announced that free masks will be available in pharmacies.
In Germany, about five million people are currently receiving social benefits. They are all eligible for free FFP2 masks. In order to get them in pharmacies, you need to wait for the letter with the coupon from the health insurance company. The masks will be available within two weeks. Heil said the program will be launched as soon as possible.
Critics say the authorities should first create a mechanism to provide the poor with medical masks, and only then issue a decree tightening the mask regime and banning cloth masks. Whether the government will impose a limit on the cost of medical and FFP2 masks in retail stores and online is not yet known.
