France has crossed the 80,000 dead mark

France crossed the 80,000 mark for COVID-19-related deaths on Tuesday, with more than 700 new deaths in hospitals and in establishments for dependent elderly people (Ehpad), according to official data published on the website of the government.

Between Monday and Tuesday, 439 COVID-19 patients died in hospital, according to the French public health agency, which also publishes data related to the evolution of the disease every evening.

At least 3.3 million cases of contamination have been recorded since the start of the epidemic, including around 18,000 in the last 24 hours.

The number of hospitalizations linked to COVID-19 remains high, with a total of 27,634, including 1,931 hospitalizations in 24 hours, against 1,893 on Monday, according to figures from Public Health France. At least 334 people were newly admitted to intensive care, against 356 the day before.

According to official figures, more than 2,353,000 vaccinations have been carried out in France since the start of the campaign at the end of December: 1.9 million have received a first dose (3.1% of the population) and 366,733 have received the second.
