Former USSR Prosecutor General Alexander Sukharev dies

Former Prosecutor General of the USSR, honorary worker of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation, participant of the Great Patriotic War, Alexander Sukharev died at the age of 97. This was reported on Sunday, March 7, on the website of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

Condolences in connection with the death of Sukharev were expressed by the chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin.

“This is an irreparable loss for all of us – students, colleagues, followers and comrades in arms of Alexander Yakovlevich. A man of the era, he was a multifaceted personality and lived a long, dignified life, ”Bastrykin said.

From March 1984 to February 1988, Sukharev was the Minister of Justice of the RSFSR, from May 26, 1988 to February 25, 1990, the Prosecutor General of the USSR.

After that, he took part in the work on the draft of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation.

Sukharev is the author of more than 120 scientific works, scientific publications on the problems of combating crime and the formation of the legal consciousness of the population, was the chief editor of the Russian Legal Encyclopedia, published in 1999.
