The fast food chain McDonald’s has filed a lawsuit against the ex-head of the company Steve Easterbrook over a secret office romance that he had with one of the employees. This was announced on Monday, August 10, by TASS.
According to the agency, the company intends to sue Easterbrug for severance pay, since there was a violation of corporate ethics on his part.
According to the current head of McDonald’s Chris Kempchinski, new data on the behavior of the former CEO became known from employee reports. He noted that his actions “went against” the company’s values more than was anticipated when the board of directors fired him in November 2019.
“This new information makes it clear that he lied and destroyed evidence of inappropriate personal relationships and should not have received contractual compensation. At the direction of the board of directors, the company filed a lawsuit to recover this compensation, ”Kempchinski said.
Easterbrook stepped down as CEO of McDonald’s on November 4, 2019. The management of the corporation found out that he entered into a relationship with the employee, which is contrary to the company’s policy, the TV channel “360” notes. Severance pay for six months was $ 8 million.
Steve Easterbrook was born in 1967 in the UK and joined McDonald’s in 1993. In 2011, he left there and returned two years later. He became the CEO of the corporation in 2015 and headed it until November 2019.
