When workers at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport asked a man they found in a restricted area to show them his ID, he showed them an airport employee’s badge, which had gone missing a month ago.

Police were called to the scene and found out that the “suspicious type” is a 36-year-old California resident, Aditya Singh, who flew into the Chicago airport on October 19 last year and all this time was hiding in the restricted area. According to him, he “did not want to fly back to California for fear of contracting the coronavirus.” Singh ate food provided by other passengers, and the badge belonged to the manager of the airport operations department, who reported his loss on October 26. He lives in the suburbs of Los Angeles and has a master’s degree in hospitality.

Singh is charged with illegal entry into a restricted area and petty theft. A spokesman for the Chicago Aviation Department said that while “the investigation into this incident is still ongoing, we can state that this gentleman did not pose a threat to the airport and its passengers.”
