This Thursday Orthodox believers honor the memory of the Monk Martyr Vadim, Archimandrite, and his 7 disciples. The people called this saint Vadim Klyuchnik.
Archimandrite Vadim lived in the 4th century and fell under persecution during the persecution of Christians. In Russia, on the day of the memory of the saint, there were special traditions, following which you can preserve the well-being of your family.
So, on the morning of April 22, people tried as early as possible, before sunrise, to get to a spring or river in order to wash themselves with cool water – this eliminates ailments and brings good luck, the ancestors believed. The richer people threw silver coins into the springs for good luck.
It is believed that on this day one should not be lazy and lie down for a long time, otherwise failures will haunt. You cannot take revenge in the house with a broom, so as not to “sweep” well-being from the family. It’s a bad omen to dye or cut your hair on the day of Vadim Klyuchnik.
The water collected from the spring is considered healing on this day. It cannot be used in vain or spilled, people say.
