Florida authorities suspend all anti-coronavirus restrictions in the state. This was announced on May 3 by its governor Ron Desantis.
“I intend to suspend local emergency directives related to COVID in accordance with my executive branch … I think this is scientifically sound,” Desantis said during a press conference, an excerpt from WPTV.
According to the governor, the decree lifting restrictions in the state will take effect on July 1. At the same time, he noted that in order to remove all restrictions before the decree takes effect, he uses his powers.
Ron Desantis also signed a decree prohibiting the requirement from local residents for certificates of receiving a vaccine against COVID-19.
Florida ranks fifth in the U.S. for the incidence of coronavirus infection, according to Hopkins University data as of May 3.
Earlier, on April 21, Desantis signed a law toughening penalties for crimes committed during riots or protests.
The law toughens penalties for crimes committed during the riots, introduces new penalties for intimidating crowds and destroying monuments or historical sites. According to the governor, this law is “the toughest against unrest in the country.”
