The Leningrad Oblast Electoral Commission has finished accepting documents from candidates for governor of the Leningrad Region. As reported in the Electoral Commission of the region, two candidates for participation in the elections dropped out – one withdrew his candidacy, and the second simply did not have time to bring all the documents.
The elections of the Governor of the Leningrad Region will be held on September 13, 2020. Five candidates will run. The Leningrad Region Election Commission named the candidates in the order in which they submitted documents.
► Andrey Lebedev – Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Legislative Assembly of Leoblast, deputy. Nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party;
► Alexander Gabitov – President of the regional association of employers “Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the Leningrad Region”. Nominated by the “Civic Platform”;
► Alexander Perminov – Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Legislative Assembly of Leoblast, deputy. Nominated by “Fair Russia”;
► Alexander Drozdenko – Governor of the Leningrad Region. Nominated by United Russia;
► Vadim Grishkov – Associate Professor (Ph.D.) of the Department of State and Municipal Administration of the North-West Institute of Management – a branch of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation. Nominated by the Communist Party.
According to the regional Election Commission, seven candidates nominated themselves. Two did not pass.
Nominated by the Rodina Party Valery Shinkarenko, decided to withdraw his candidacy from participation in the elections. He brought a statement to the regional Electoral Commission on 28 July.
“It was decided to recognize Shinkarenko as having lost the status of a candidate for the post of governor of the Leningrad region”, – reported in the regional Election Commission.
Ataman Alexander Kalinin, nominated by the Social Protection Party, did not manage to submit the necessary documents at the appointed time.
Now the regional electoral commission is checking the documents of candidates. Within 10 days, a decision will be made to register the candidate or a reasoned decision to refuse his registration.
