The coronavirus vaccine, which has been successfully tested by the American corporation Pfizer and the bioengineering company BioNTech, must be stored at minus 70 degrees, and this may complicate its delivery. This was announced on Tuesday, November 10, by a professor at the University of Cambridge, Gordon Dugan.
“Most vaccines are kept cold, at about 4 degrees or below, but not at -70 degrees. The delivery system for the vaccine will depend on how long the vaccine can be stored at or near room temperature. Apparently, the companies will announce this later, ”TASS quoted Dugan as saying.
At the same time, Alexander Edwards, Associate Professor of Biomedicine at the University of Reading, believes that enterprises will respond to the availability of demand and be able to create the equipment necessary for transportation.
“We saw something similar in the spring, when the production of personal protective equipment was sharply increased and the production of test kits to detect coronavirus was increased,” Edwards said.
On the eve of Pfizer and BioNTech announced a successful third phase of clinical trials of the BNT162b2 vaccine they developed against coronavirus.
In turn, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the EU’s intention to sign a contract with BioNTech and Pfizer Corporation for the purchase of 300 million doses of coronavirus vaccine.
Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Ghebreyesus noted that the news of the successful results of trials of the vaccine against the coronavirus by Pfizer and BioNTech is encouraging, Gazeta.ru writes.
