In Russia, as of the end of November, 3.201 million unemployed were officially registered – compared to last month, the number of those registered at the labor exchange has decreased. This information was provided to Izvestia on December 1 at the Ministry of Labor.
They noted that the peak of registration of the unemployed fell on September – there were over 3.7 million.
The Federation of Independent Trade Unions (FNPR) and the State Duma noted that the downward trend in data demonstrates the unwillingness of citizens to register at employment centers after the abolition of increased unemployment benefits from October 1.
The coronavirus pandemic pushed people to register – due to the availability of registration via the Internet and the payment of increased benefits at the level of 12 thousand rubles, said the head of the Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Yaroslav Nilov.
“The government narrowed down this group, leaving only those who lost their jobs after March 1, 2020. But now these increased benefits are no longer there, ”the parliamentarian commented on the drop in data on the“ labor exchange ”.
The FNPR also agreed with this position. They noticed that this is a natural and understandable process – citizens do not want to engage in paperwork for the sake of low payments.
Valery Ryazansky, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, also told Izvestia about the reasons why not everyone wants to officially register themselves as unemployed.
“Someone does not want to spoil his biography, while someone believes that he does not need it, because he himself is in search. Registration is a right, not an obligation. Considering that families with children were provided with sufficient material support, the number of the category of people who formalized their relations with the state increased significantly. We now have a fairly high unemployment rate, ”the parliamentarian said.
