Ex-Deputy Head of the State Property Committee of Karelia received a serious sentence for bribes

Yesterday the Petrozavodsk city court sentenced the ex-deputy head of the State Property Committee of Karelia Sergey Maksimov to 12 years in prison in a strict regime penal colony. Also, the former official will have to pay a serious fine of 18 million rubles. At the same time, now Maksimov will not be able to occupy a number of positions in government agencies and local government bodies for three years. The Prosecutor’s Office of Karelia has informed about it.

The court found that in the period from 2013 to 2015, the defendant Sergei Maksimov, as part of a group of persons by prior conspiracy with the chairman of the said committee, Denis Kosarev, received bribes from individual entrepreneurs and representatives of legal entities for creating special conditions during auctions for the conclusion of government contracts, lease and purchase agreements – sale of property owned by the state, as well as for the issuance of loans to those institutions that were controlled by the State Committee.

The court also passed a verdict on the entrepreneur Stepan Morozov, who was accused of giving a bribe of 480 thousand rubles to the ex-leadership of the State Property Committee. Morozov was sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment in a general regime colony. In addition, the businessman will have to pay a fine of 15 million rubles.

The verdict of the court did not come into legal force.
