After fixing deaths and side effects in patients vaccinated with the Pfizer / BioNtech vaccine, the European Union did not change the vaccination strategy of the population. However, as the European Commission (EC) told Izvestia, control was tightened to monitor the vaccination campaign.
– We continue to monitor this situation together with the European Medicines Agency (EMA). For this, very strict control measures have been introduced. The EC has always emphasized that the effectiveness, safety and quality of vaccines are crucial, including for building the confidence of European citizens, the EC stressed.
EMA told Izvestia that after a study of 13 deaths in Norway after vaccination, it turned out that they were all elderly people (80+) with concomitant severe diseases. The agency called the Pfizer / BioNtech vaccine still effective.
However, the supplier itself recently announced a temporary cut in supplies to the EU due to the need to increase production capacity. Several European states called the situation unacceptable. Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said that, together with Denmark and Greece, the country would insist on the approval of another vaccine by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) – from AstraZeneca, because in the current situation every week counts.
