The European Union (EU) has extended for a year restrictive measures against the DPRK. This was announced on Thursday, July 30, on the website of the EU Council.

“Today the Council approved the list of individuals and legal entities falling under the EU autonomous sanctions against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). As a result, the existing restrictive measures – travel ban and asset freeze – imposed on the listed individuals and entities will continue to apply for one year, until the next annual review, ”the statement said.

The sanctions apply to dozens of individuals for participating in DPRK programs related to nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles or other types of weapons of mass destruction, or for evading sanctions.

The EU stressed that they have repeatedly expressed their conviction that lasting peace and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula must be achieved by peaceful means.

On June 17, US President Donald Trump also extended sanctions against the DPRK for another year for another year, since the actions of the North Korean authorities continue, in the opinion of the American administration, to pose a serious threat to the country’s national security, economy and foreign policy.

In February, it became known that North Korea continued to develop its nuclear and missile programs in 2019, despite the relevant UN Security Council sanctions.
