The European Union, together with NATO, may invite US President-elect Joseph Biden to visit Brussels. This was announced on Wednesday, January 20, by a senior EU official ahead of the online summit of heads of state and government of the community, which will be held on January 21.

“Yesterday the chairman [Евросовета Шарль] Michelle and NATO Secretary General [Йенс] Stoltenberg met and discussed this issue. The joint invitation of the EU and NATO may become a strategy, but it must still be confirmed, ”TASS quoted him as saying.

Earlier on the same day, the head of the European Council Charles Michel admitted that after Biden came to power, the disagreements between the European Union and the United States would persist.

On the eve of the candidate for the post of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken admitted Biden’s inability to influence the position of the EU countries that are interested in completing the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. However, according to him, Washington will take all measures to convince the European Union to refuse to continue construction.

On January 7, the US Congress approved the election of Democrat Joe Biden as the 46th American president. His inauguration will take place later January 20 in Washington. The capital, which is in emergency mode, is guarded by 25 thousand guards.
