The second wave of coronavirus is likely to begin around the world in the fall, said Mikhail Favorov, MD, epidemiologist and expert in the control and prevention of viral infections.
“In August and until mid-September we will have a break. But this is again the same seasonal fluctuations, ”the medic said in an interview with RT on August 9.
Favorov noted that an increase in the incidence is expected in mid-autumn.
According to the expert, in Moscow the second wave will begin earlier, and the virus itself will be more aggressive. According to the forecast, the incidence rate will decline in November.
On August 10, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Areg Totolyan said that people who observed strict self-isolation in the summer may find it more difficult to endure the coronavirus in the fall.
“I am afraid that in the fall we may face a more severe course of COVID-19 than in the spring, and we must be psychologically prepared for this,” he warned.
In addition, the specialist pointed out that the autumn combination of SARS-CoV-2 with influenza, parainfluenza and previously known and relatively harmless coronaviruses can complicate the situation.
