Do extra to struggle crime or terrorism. That is what eighteen right-wing mayors require, together with Christian Estrosi (Good), François Grosdidier (Metz) and Arnaud Robinet (Reims), in a column within the Journal du Dimanche. They demand the extension of the powers of their municipal police forces, the day after an initiative on this path of the Castex authorities.
The town officers ask particularly for entry to varied information, the potential for finishing up id checks, and even the authorization to shut “establishments posing recurring problems of public tranquility or not respecting municipal decrees”.
“One more step” to “support the State”
Prime Minister Jean Castex, on a visit to Good on Saturday, introduced a number of initiatives towards insecurity, and particularly the forthcoming experimentation in Good to increase the powers of the municipal police.
“For several years, we have been fighting so that security, which is primarily the responsibility of the State, is ensured with force and authority”, write the authors of the discussion board, of which Christian Estrosi is the primary signatory: ” Today, we affirm that we are ready to take one more step to support the State in this mission, in a context of terrorist threat and delinquency undoubtedly reinforced by the health, economic and social crises linked to Covid-19 “.
Among the many signatories are Michèle Lutz (Mulhouse), Émile Roger Lombertie (Limoges), Franck Louvrier (La Baule-Escoublac) and Alain Chrétien (Vesoul). They suggest a “convention” reinforcing the powers of “voluntary mayors with an appropriate administration”. This settlement would give them particularly “full access to files such as those of driving licenses, stolen cars, wanted persons, S files”.
