Actor Mikhail Efremov does not count on a mild punishment and calmly prepares for the verdict in the case of a fatal accident with his participation. This was announced on September 5 by the artist’s lawyer Elman Pashayev.

“He does not count on anything, since from the first day he said that there would be a long time. When the prosecutor asked for 11 years in prison, Efremov did not even blink an eye. It became easier for him, “TASS reports.

Pashayev noted that Efremov from the first day after the accident said that “his fate is decided.”

The state prosecutor asked the actor to be sentenced to 11 years in prison in a general regime correctional colony.

In turn, the artist’s lawyer Elman Pashayev asked the court to pass “any” verdict that would not be associated with imprisonment. If Efremov is nevertheless assigned a real punishment, then the artist should be sent to a colony-settlement, and not to a correctional facility, Pashayev called on.

The verdict to Efremov will be announced on September 8.

The accident happened on June 8 at Smolenskaya Square in Moscow. Efremov’s SUV flew at high speed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the Lada van. The driver of the domestic car – courier Sergei Zakharov – died from his injuries in the hospital the next morning. The examination found that at the time of the accident, Efremov was drunk, and traces of drugs were found in his body.

On August 31, the actor testified for the first time in the accident case. He stated that he does not use drugs and does not know where the illegal substances came from in his body, although he had previously confirmed at a psychological and psychiatric examination that he had taken illegal drugs repeatedly and systematically. The artist also stressed that he recorded a video admitting his guilt in an accident a few days after the incident, without giving any account of his actions.

The next day, the court completed the examination of the evidence in the Efremov case. In the trial, about 20 people acted as witnesses. The witnesses for the prosecution and the victims insisted that they had seen Efremov at the wheel and that he was alone in the car. However, witnesses who were invited by the artist’s defenders said that another person was driving the car at the time of the accident.
