Law enforcement officials have detained a Lexus driver who is suspected of fatally hitting two Ulan-Ude teenagers. Children’s Ombudsman for Buryatia Natalya Gankina wrote about this on her Facebook page on Tuesday, February 23rd.
“The driver was detained, a previously convicted man, born in 1983, arrived from the Irkutsk region,” she said.
According to the Ombudsman, the man was drunk at the time of the accident.
Gankina brought “the deepest condolences” to the families and friends of the deceased children.
The incident occurred in Ulan-Ude around 18:20 local time (13:20 Moscow time) on Revolution Street in 1905. The driver ran into two teenagers with a pedestrian crossing.
REN TV channel has published video from CCTV cameras. The footage shows that the red light is on for cars, cars stop, but one foreign car does not even slow down and knocks down pedestrians.
Later, the traffic police provided footage of the car, which shows the consequences of the accident. As a result of the accident, a 16-year-old boy and a girl flew several meters away, and a foreign car tried to leave.
