President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, having decided not to agree to a peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbass, betrayed his electorate. This was stated by the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin.
“There are no steps, there are no prerequisites to say that Zelensky is committed to a peaceful settlement of the conflict. Moreover, it is very incomprehensible to me, it looks illogical that Zelensky has betrayed his electorate. This is a betrayal, I can’t call it any other way, ”the head of the DPR said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
In his opinion, if Zelensky wanted to fulfill his election promises, he would have a lot of obstacles. However, Pushilin noted, the situation is even worse – the Ukrainian leader did not even try to do this.
The head of the republic noted that the Ukrainians voted for Zelensky as the president of the world, since the then head of state, Petro Poroshenko, was “the personification of the ongoing conflict.”
At the same time, now, according to Pushilin, Poroshenko’s chances of winning the presidential election are higher than those of Zelensky. At the same time, he stressed that for the residents of Donbass who do not take part in the elections, the candidacies of Poroshenko and Zelensky are of equal importance.
“If we argue and step aside a little, which of them has more chances: my opinion is that Petro Poroshenko has more chances, because Zelensky now looks like Poroshenko’s fake,” Pushilin explained.
On April 16, Zelensky said that he has become a tougher politician since taking office. According to him, this was facilitated by the actions taken by him to end the war in the east of the country.
Zelensky became president of Ukraine following the 2019 elections. In the second round, the Servant of the People party candidate won 73.22% of the vote, while his rival Poroshenko received 24.45%. Poroshenko admitted defeat, but said he did not intend to leave politics.
In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR, which declared independence after the coup d’etat in Ukraine in February 2014. The issue of resolving the situation in Donbass is discussed, among other things, during the meetings of the contact group in Minsk, which since September 2014 has already adopted three documents regulating steps to de-escalate the conflict. However, after the armistice agreements between the parties to the conflict, shootings continue.
