On August 10, the Butyrsky Court of Moscow will begin consideration of the merits of the case against the youngest of the Khachaturian sisters, who at the time of her father’s murder was declared insane. This was stated by the lawyer Valentina Frolova.
Pre-trial preparation in the case of the elder sisters is scheduled for consideration in the Moscow City Court on July 31.
During the pre-trial preparation, the court decided not to return the younger sister’s case to the Prosecutor General’s Office. He also refused to combine the sisters’ affairs into a single proceeding.
The younger sister was declared insane at the time of the crime. She cannot be sentenced, only compulsory treatment. The court will decide whether to apply this measure, and if so, on an outpatient basis or in a hospital. The older sisters face a real sentence of up to 20 years.
On July 13, the Prosecutor General’s Office announced the transfer of the sisters’ cases to court.
On May 13, it became known that the investigators refused to re-qualify the case of the Khachaturian sisters as a necessary defense.
The Khachaturian sisters, then 17, 18 and 19 years old, committed the murder of their 57-year-old father for sexual assault in July 2018.
The girls were arrested on August 2, 2018 and charged with murder by prior conspiracy (clause “g”, part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In mid-June 2019, they were finally charged.
