From 2011 to September 2020, the estimated damage to the state budget from tax crimes amounted to more than 450 billion rubles, Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee, Colonel General of Justice Yelena Leonenko told Izvestia in an interview with Izvestia.
“The investigating authorities managed to return 208 billion rubles to the budget, to seize property worth 67 billion. Thanks to the measures taken over the past four years, it has been possible to compensate on average half of the damage caused by tax crimes,” she said.
According to Elena Leonenko, since 2011 the number of annually initiated criminal cases on tax crimes has grown by almost one and a half times. If in 2011 the investigating authorities initiated 1,776 criminal cases, then in 2019 – already 2,560.
“To assess the effectiveness of our work, the proportion of criminal cases is important – how many of them were initiated out of the amount of materials that we receive. There is a stable trend here: if in 2011 the value was 17%, then in 2019 it was 56%. And according to the results of nine months of 2020 – 66%. This means that more than half of the materials that we receive form the basis for criminal prosecution, ”said the Deputy Chair of the Investigative Committee.
