Several Western states have requested closed consultations with the UN Security Council on the situation around North Korea following the recent missile launches. This was announced on Saturday, March 27, by RIA Novosti, citing a source in the UN Security Council.
“A number of Western countries requested consultations on Tuesday behind closed doors on the situation around the DPRK in connection with the recent missile launches,” the source said.
According to the source, France is requesting a meeting on behalf of all European countries that are members of the organization’s Security Council.
On March 25, the Japanese Defense Ministry announced the launch of a ballistic missile by Pyongyang. It was noted that the rocket was launched on Thursday at 07:06 local time (01:06 Moscow time).
US President Joe Biden said that the US will respond to the DPRK authorities if they escalate tensions. At the same time, Washington is ready to negotiate with Pyongyang.
The Kremlin also commented on the tests of North Korea, noting that they do not pose a threat to Russia. According to the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov, Moscow is watching these tests.
In turn, the DPRK said that the launch of missiles in the direction of the Sea of Japan was self-defense against the background of joint military exercises of the United States and South Korea.
