“Today, we signed the certification for the 2020 Arizona election,” tweeted Doug Ducey, the Republican governor of that state who has swung into the Democratic camp for the first time in nearly 25 years.

Head of electoral operations, Arizona Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs praised an election “conducted with transparency, precision and fairness (…), despite numerous unfounded allegations to the contrary.”

Later in the day, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced that he too had certified the results of the poll in his state which voted for Joe Biden, after helping elect Donald Trump in 2016.

Arizona also certified the victory of Democratic Senate candidate Mark Kelly, so that he “can be sworn in as quickly as possible,” Ducey said.

The certification of results does not necessarily sign the end of recourse to the courts, Arizona for example allowing the results to be contested even after they have been validated.

Mr. Trump’s campaign team has tried – without success so far – to hamper the certification process of results in key states won by Mr. Biden with legal remedies.
