On the eve of the climate summit, US President Joe Biden intends to announce the country’s plans to reduce by 2030 greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere by almost half. This was announced on Tuesday, April 20, by The New York Times, citing sources in the administration of the American president.
According to the newspaper, Biden will announce that the United States intends to seek to reduce this indicator by 50%. At the same time, according to its obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement, the American side must reduce the level of greenhouse gas emissions by 28% compared to the volume recorded in 2005.
The White House hopes that these plans will push other countries to make new commitments to protect the climate during the upcoming summit.
The United States returned to the Paris Agreement with Biden’s arrival at the White House. At the same time, John Kerry, appointed by him to the post of special envoy for climate, has already noted that Washington expects from other countries, including China and Russia, new steps to combat global warming.
The international summit on combating climate change will be held on April 22-23, 40 world leaders have been invited to it. On Monday, the Kremlin press service announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in it.
