The administration of US President Joe Biden has decided not to change Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan anytime soon, CNN reported, citing sources on Monday, April 12.
The administration of the American leader believes that Sullivan, who has been in office since February last year, “stands firmly on his feet” in a situation where the United States is “increasing pressure on Russia.”
At the same time, Biden is still choosing candidates for other ambassadorial posts, and the president has not yet decided on the “overwhelming majority” of positions, the White House said.
Tensions between the countries arose after the publication of American intelligence on March 16 about the alleged Russian interference in the American elections in 2020. After that, Joe Biden announced that Moscow should “pay” for this.
In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that his American counterpart hold an open conversation in fact online, noting that such a format would be of interest not only to the peoples of the United States and the Russian Federation, but also to many in the world.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki stressed that Biden does not regret speaking about Putin. She stressed that the American leader “will not restrain himself in words or actions.”
