Beirut protesters burst into two ministry buildings

On Sunday, protesters in Beirut broke into the building of the Lebanese Ministry of Labor and the building of the Ministry of Displaced Persons. This was reported by the Al Hadath TV channel on August 9.

According to the TV channel, a fire started at the entrance to the parliamentary square in the center of Beirut.

Clashes broke out between protesters and security forces in the Lebanese capital on Sunday. Earlier, the media reported about clashes near the building of the country’s parliament. There was also information that the police were using rubber bullets against the demonstrators.

On the eve, thousands of Lebanese took to the streets, demanding the resignation of the government after the explosion in the port of Beirut. As a result, the protests escalated into clashes with law enforcement agencies. Shooting was heard in the streets of the city.

The demonstrators entered the building of the Lebanese Foreign Ministry, from where they were later expelled by the military. Protesters also tried to storm the building of the Ministries of Energy, Economy and Environment and the building of the Lebanese Banks Association in Beirut.

As a result, over 700 civilians were injured during clashes with security forces. More than 100 servicemen were injured and one of the security officials was killed.

The explosion in the port of the Lebanese capital occurred on 4 August. Then 2.7 tons of ammonium nitrate were detonated. Several dozen buildings were damaged and destroyed, more than 15 people died, 6 thousand were injured and 21 citizens are reported missing.
