Vienna and Moscow have completed negotiations on the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. This was announced on April 10 by the country’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz at a meeting with journalists.
“Sputnik V” would become an additional accelerator (of the vaccination process in Austria – Ed.) With a volume of 1 million doses. De facto contract negotiations have come to an end. This means that a purchase for us in Austria is possible, ”the Kronen Zeitung quotes him.
Earlier, on April 9, it was reported that Vienna hopes for a quick admission of Sputnik V by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), but is able to independently register this drug.
Prior to that, on April 6, Kurz said that there should be no geopolitical context in the registration process for the EMA of the Russian vaccine.
On March 30, Kurz also announced Austria’s intention to negotiate with Russia on the use of Sputnik V. According to the Chancellor, since February Austria has been “in good dialogue with the Russian side,” for which he is very grateful.
In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova noted that Austria’s intentions on Sputnik V are destroying the myth of “aggressive Russia”. She stated that the foundation of Russian policy is cooperation on a mutually beneficial and mutually respectful basis.
The first coronavirus vaccine in Russia and the world was registered on August 11, 2020. Sputnik V was developed by specialists from the Gamaleya Center.
