On August 6, 2020 (July 24, old style), the people honor the Martyrs of the faithful princes Boris and Gleb
History:
On Thursday, August 6, 2020, the people celebrate the Day of Boris and Gleb. Old-style date: July 24. The history of this Orthodox holiday dates back to 1115.
Boris and Gleb were the younger sons of Prince Vladimir. They were born a little earlier than baptism in Russia. The brothers were well educated and deeply religious.
Later, their father sent them as rulers of Rostov and Murom. Their subjects loved them for their wisdom and justice.
However, when Prince Vladimir was about to die, the eldest son Svyatopolk declared himself the Grand Duke of Kiev. In order to rid himself of competitors to the throne, Svyatopolk sent assassins to Boris. The same fate awaited Gleb.
The brothers, contrary to tradition, did not unleash civil strife, did not go to the murder of Svyatopolk, remaining forever in the Russian memory.
The Russian and Constantinople churches canonized Boris and Gleb, declaring them the first saints.
In Russia they believed that Saints Boris and Gleb would protect everyone who remembers them in prayers.
