A 30-year-old resident of Astrakhan is awaiting trial in Sevastopol on charges of large-scale fraud. Its victims were people wishing to get a job in the crews of foreign ships, the press service of the Sevastopol prosecutor’s office reported.

It was established that a man born in 1991 contacted two residents of Sevastopol, who posted a resume on a job search site, and on behalf of a crewing company (engaged in hiring seafarers) promised to assist in the preparation of documents and employment in the crews of foreign ships. At the same time, he had nothing to do with crewing, writes “Astrakhan-24”.

For “help” the swindler received almost 3.5 million rubles from the residents of Sevastopol. He spent about 600 thousand rubles on buying a car, which he registered for his sister, and lost the rest of the money on bets in bookmakers.

The man is accused of crimes under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud on an especially large scale” and Part 1 of Art. 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Legalization (laundering) of funds acquired by a person as a result of a crime committed by him.” Also, civil claims were filed for the recovery of material damage. The car and other property of the accused was seized.

The investigation of the criminal case has been completed and submitted to the court for consideration.
