In Russia, an automated guidance and fire system (ASUNO) is being developed for barrel artillery and multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). This was reported on February 22 by TASS with reference to the press service of the High-Precision Complexes holding (part of Rostec).

“At present, an ASUNO is being created with new control principles, with elements of artificial intelligence, with the implementation of an intuitive interface and a decision support system, which will significantly reduce the time for controlling fire weapons and eliminate operator errors,” the agency’s interlocutor explained at the international arms exhibition IDEX 2021 in Abu Dhabi.

According to him, the corporation is also working on a new ASUNO structure based on a mixed main-radial structure. This will make it possible to “flexibly build up and reconfigure” ASUNO for other systems, added the press service.

It is noted that the Research Institute “Signal” in recent years has created a number of tools to automate the control of artillery fire. Thus, the ASUNO control system is planned to equip the latest Russian artillery systems, including the Msta-SM and the Tornado-G and Tornado-S MLRS.

On December 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin at an expanded meeting of the Defense Ministry board said that the use of artificial intelligence in weapons in the future will determine the outcome of the battle.
