The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied the statement of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev about the capture of the city of Shushi in Nagorno-Karabakh. On November 8, the official representative of the military department Artsrun Hovhannisyan stated this.

“The fighting in Shushi continues, we will wait and trust our troops,” he wrote on his Facebook.

Earlier on the same day, Aliyev said that the Azerbaijani armed forces had taken control of the city of Shushi in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to him, the city was “liberated from the occupation.” He also expressed his readiness to go to the end if “the Armenian authorities do not answer my demand.”

The city is of strategic importance, as a road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia passes through it.

On Saturday, it became known about the shelling of the capital of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic of Stepanakert by the armed forces of Azerbaijan. On the same day, the official representative of the Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan said that the Azerbaijani military forces had attracted additional forces to attack the city of Shushi.

On November 4, Aliyev said that Baku is ready to stop the war in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, but for this, Yerevan must commit to withdrawing troops from the territories that Azerbaijan considers occupied.

Another escalation of the conflict in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic took place on September 27. Baku and Yerevan accused each other of shelling. The parties agreed on a ceasefire three times, but the fighting continues to this day.
