The case of anthrax was confirmed in the Odessa region. This was reported at the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The report on suspected anthrax was received at the Odessa Regional Laboratory Center in July. An epidemiological investigation established that the patient’s body temperature rose on August 3, and a boil appeared on the lower leg, which turned into an ulcer. The patient did not seek medical help for four days.
“Only on 7 August did the patient go to the family doctor. On August 11, the reference laboratory of the Center for Public Health of Ukraine isolated anthrax DNA by PCR, ”the ministry’s press service said.
It is also reported that the specialists of the laboratory center are taking the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease. The patient is constantly monitored and a full range of anti-epidemic and preventive measures is carried out in the outbreak.
The Ministry of Health added that the disease is not transmitted from person to person. The patient buys animals for resale. And human infection occurs through wounds or mucous membranes when caring for sick animals or when processing carcasses, in contact with various types of raw materials obtained from an infected animal, through the bites of blood-sucking insects.
