Russian Andrei Rublev for the first time in his career climbed to seventh place in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), reported on Sunday, April 18 on the organization’s website.

The athlete renewed his ranking record, moving up from eighth place and displacing Swiss Roger Federer, thanks to reaching his debut final Masters in Monte Carlo.

There were no other changes in the top 10 ATP last week. Serb Novak Djokovic continues to lead the rating, Russian Daniil Medvedev is in second place since March 15, Spaniard Rafael Nadal is third.

Earlier on Sunday, Rublev failed to win the Masters’ main trophy in Monte Carlo, losing in two sets to Stefanos Tsitsipas (3: 6, 3: 6), who reached the final with much less effort.

So, in the first four matches the Greek faced only one seeded player and did not lose a single set. Rublev knocked out the “ground king” Rafael Nadal at the quarterfinals stage.

“Andrei simply did not have time to recover by the final. His calendar for the final part was much more complicated and the volume of workload was completely different, ”Shamil Tarpishchev, President of the Russian Tennis Federation, said in an interview with Izvestia.
