Jalalabad | An Afghan gynecologist was killed on Thursday in the explosion of a bomb attached to her vehicle in Jalalabad (east), where three employees of a television station had been murdered two days earlier, the source said. administrative.

“A gynecologist was killed in a bomb explosion in the city of Jalalabad,” a member of the office of the governor of Nangarhar province, of which Jalalabad is the capital, told AFP.

The bomb was placed in the back of the rickshaw in which the victim was going to his place of work, said the official, adding that a child had been injured.

A spokesperson for a hospital in the province confirmed the toll of the attack, which has not yet been claimed.

It comes two days after the shooting murder in Jalalabad of three young employees of the local television station Enekaas TV.

Targeted killings of journalists, judges, doctors, political and religious figures, and human rights defenders have become more and more frequent in recent months in Afghanistan.

These killings sowed terror in the country and prompted members of civil society to go into hiding or exile.

The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack, like others before.

But the Afghan government and the United States continue to blame the Taliban for these targeted assassinations, even though the Taliban strongly rejects the accusation.

This wave of assassinations coincided with the opening in September in Doha of peace negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government, intended to end two decades of war.

Today, those talks have stalled, as Washington ordered a review of the deal signed in February 2020 in Doha with the Taliban providing for the complete withdrawal of US troops from the country by May 2021.
