In January-February 2021, almost 50 accidents were registered on the roads of republican and federal significance, outside the cities and other settlements of Mari El.
More than 80 people were injured in these incidents, more than ten died. About 20 accidents happened on federal highways.
According to the State Traffic Inspectorate, most often accidents occur due to the wrong choice of speed by the drivers or self-confidence, forcing them to drive into the oncoming lane at the wrong moment. The weather also contributed to the worsening road conditions.
Traffic police officers work daily with a speed meter “Binar”, which records excess speed limits. More than 70 video cameras are also installed on the tracks.
