On the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, the Russian Defense Ministry has opened on its website a historical and educational section “Anthology on February 23” about the heroes of the war years.

The special project invites you to familiarize yourself with the publications of the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper in the February 23 issues of the four front years: 1942, 1943, 1944 and 1945.

“The archival documents presented here tell about the exploits of the soldiers and commanders of the Red Army during the combat operations of units and formations of the Red Army,” the Defense Ministry noted.

The section also contains award materials from the funds of the Central Archives of the Russian Ministry of Defense for all the heroes of the Soviet Union, about whom the newspaper reported these days, Gazeta.ru writes. Among them, for example, is the famous sniper Vasily Zaitsev, who was reported on February 23, 1943. The award list for the officer says about more than two hundred enemy soldiers and officers killed by him in street battles in Stalingrad.

The publication of archival documents from the period of the Great Patriotic War from the funds of the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of Russia is a continuation of the activities of the military department aimed at protecting and protecting historical truth, countering falsifications of history, and attempts to revise the results of World War II.

On May 2, 2020, the Ministry of Defense declassified documents on the capture of Berlin by Soviet troops for the 75th anniversary of the legendary operation.
