Sergey Patrikeev, an expert of the Russian Department of the Auction House “Christie”, handed over to VSMZ 14 volumes of the Consolidated Lists of Knights of the Cross of St. George.
It contains information about 900,000 heroes of the First World War and the Civil War from 1914-1922. Searching and analyzing data has been going on for almost twenty years.
According to Sergei Patrikeev, while at the state archives, he found a folder with documents about the holders of the St.George Cross. This topic interested him, and he decided to start research work in this direction. The main obstacle here was that the Soviet authorities destroyed all information about the soldiers of the tsarist army. The specialist found a way out: he collected information about some of the knights of the St.George Cross in various sources.
Now, knowing only the number of the warrior’s award, with the help of Sergey Patrikeev’s publication, you can determine the name and surname of the hero, get brief information about him and find out what he was awarded for.
To date, the author has published information on 900,000 people, but over the past three months he has already systematized data on almost 100,000 heroes.
