On July 28, Spartak Sychev, a participant in the Battle of Kursk and an honorary citizen of the Tver region, celebrates his 97th birthday.
The man began his military career in 1942 on the Kalinin Front, on the Rzhev-Vyazemsky direction. As part of the 129th separate rifle brigade, he freed Rzhev from the invaders, for which he received a medal “For Military Merit”. He took part in the battles at the Kursk Bulge, liberated Kiev, Poland, Ukraine. He stormed Prague and Berlin.
The Governor of the Tver Region congratulated the veteran on his birthday.
– You are one of those heroes who symbolize the endurance and courage of the generation of victors in the struggle for the freedom of our Fatherland. I was glad to see you in good health at the opening of the memorial to the Soviet soldier near Rzhev, and together with you to pay tribute to the immortal feat of our people. I wish you never to lose your inherent good spirits, energetic and inspiring mood, – said Igor Rudenya.
