The convicted person for especially grave crimes was married to his wife in the Kaluga colony. According to the press service of the regional Federal Penitentiary Service, such a ceremony is rare for correctional institutions.

“On Monday, September 14, one of the most beautiful sacraments of the Orthodox Church took place in a strict regime penal colony. Weddings in prisons have long ceased to be something exceptional. However, only a few want to get married,” the message says.

The divine service was conducted by Archpriest Sergius in the church of the Great Martyr Anastasia the Patterner.

Among the sacraments of the Orthodox Church, the wedding ceremony occupies an important place. By joining in a marriage union, spouses take an oath of fidelity to each other in Christ. At this moment, God holds the family together as a whole, blesses on a common path, the birth and upbringing of children according to the laws of Orthodoxy.
