Anton Orlov, director of the Institute for the Study of Problems of Contemporary Politics, proposed to introduce a criminal article in Russia for insulting veterans of the Great Patriotic War. With this initiative, he turned to Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, RT reports on Monday, February 15.

In his letter addressed to the minister, the political scientist stressed that the veterans and workers of the rear of the Great Patriotic War deserved a special status, gratitude and respect for all future generations, because they risked their lives and health every day to save their people from extermination.

At the same time, as noted by Orlov, at present some citizens allow themselves to make offensive statements about veterans in social networks.

“In this regard, I ask you to consider the issue of introducing a new article into the Criminal Code of Russia for publicly insulting a knowingly veteran of the Great Patriotic War or a worker in the rear of the Great Patriotic War,” the political scientist wrote.

He proposes to punish such an act with a fine of up to 100 thousand rubles, compulsory labor for up to 360 hours, correctional labor for up to one year, or imprisonment for up to one year.

In May 2017, the leader of Fair Russia, Sergei Mironov, proposed to introduce criminal liability for distorting history and insulting the memory of veterans and participants in the Great Patriotic War.
