China has decided to temporarily ban foreign nationals from Canada from entering its territory, even if they hold valid residence permits, the Chinese embassy in Ottawa said.

“All foreign nationals from Canada, who are holders of valid Chinese residence permits for work or for personal reasons are no longer allowed, temporarily, to enter China”, indicates the embassy on its site.

The holders of diplomatic and service passports are not affected by this decision, the embassy said, stressing that this “suspension is a temporary measure that China must take due to the current pandemic”.

Ottawa for its part announced Friday a tightening of entry conditions to Canada.

Travelers arriving in Canada will be required to complete a mandatory PCR test and undergo a three-day quarantine, at their own expense, in a hotel, pending test results.

They will then have to continue a 14-day quarantine at home if the test is negative or in a public health center if it is positive.

Canada had more than 774,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday since the start of the pandemic and nearly 20,000 deaths.
