Paris | Diary Sow, a young Senegalese student in France, whose disappearance at the beginning of January had put her country in turmoil, was found “safe and sound”, according to a statement released Monday by the Senegalese consulate in Paris.
“The diplomatic and consular authorities of Senegal in France inform that Miss Diary Sow has been found safe and sound. She is in the company of her godfather, Mr. Serigne Mbaye Thiam, ”Minister of Water, who took the student under his wing, the statement said.
“The diplomatic and consular authorities of Senegal in France thank the French government for its effective assistance as well as the entire Senegalese community in France, in particular the students for their mobilization”, adds the text.
Friday, Diary Sow who studies in preparatory class at the prestigious Parisian high school Louis-Le-Grand had assured to go well and to have made “a small break to find (his) spirits”, according to exchanges published by Mr. Thiam.
She said she was surprised and “sorry” for the emotion she caused.
Her disappearance was reported on January 7 and Senegalese student circles mobilized to find her. Senegalese President Macky Sall himself has given instructions to this end, according to Senegal’s Ambassador to France, Maguette Sèye.
An investigation had been opened in France for “worrying” disappearance. A source close to the case, however, wanted to be reassuring in recent days and said that the thesis of voluntary departure was privileged.
Embodiment of academic excellence and success in his country, Diary Sow, “Miss Sciences” in 2017, won the all-around competition in 2018 and 2019 and was named “best student” in Senegal.
After her baccalaureate in 2019, she obtained an excellence scholarship which allowed her to integrate the preparatory class of Louis-Le-Grand, where she studies physics, chemistry and engineering.
