Berlin | Three suspects were arrested on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the spectacular November 2019 heist of a museum in Dresden, eastern Germany, in which priceless coins and diamonds were found. stolen, announced the prosecution.
The three people arrested, of German nationality, are “strongly suspected” of having participated in the burglary of the Grünes Gewölbe museum in Dresden a year ago, the prosecution and the police said in a statement.
A series of 18 searches of “apartments, garages and vehicles” are also underway, particularly in Berlin, to try to find the objects stolen during this theft, the authorities said.
Some 1,638 police officers are mobilized for the operation which is taking place in several regions of Germany, according to the press release.
The burglary took place at the end of November 2019 and the thieves had seized a dozen pieces comprising a total of several “hundreds” of diamonds, including one of 49 carats.
The management of the Grünes Gewölbe (Green Vault) had described the stolen pieces of historical and cultural value “inestimable” and not quantifiable.
The burglars had entered at dawn in the museum of this baroque city of the former GDR and had stolen there in a few minutes adornments dating from the 18th century, including jewels and precious stones.
