From November 12, Russia begins to establish observation posts of peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, said Sergei Rudskoy, head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces.

During a press conference on November 11, he noted that the posts will be deployed to ensure the safety of civilians in the areas of responsibility “South” and “North”, where military operations were taking place a few days ago.

The first includes the districts adjacent to the settlements of Stepanakert, Agdam and Lachin. The second is the northern parts of the Terter and Aghdam regions, as well as the settlement of Mardakert.

A total of 16 Russian observation posts will be set up along the line of contact in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor.

“The task is to collect information on cases of violation of the ceasefire regime, to promptly bring this data to the command of the peacekeeping forces, as well as to maintain the safety of transit traffic,” the head of the General Staff said.

Rudskoy pointed out that the Russian peacekeepers have already taken control of the Lachin corridor, which connects Karabakh with Armenia.

He also noted that to ensure the fulfillment of peacekeeping tasks, the use of army aviation and complexes with unmanned aerial vehicles is envisaged.

On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement to end hostilities in Karabakh from November 10. The document also provides for the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into the region, the exchange of prisoners between the parties to the conflict and the return of refugees.

By November 11, 23 Russian Il-76 military transport aircraft arrived in Armenia with servicemen of the 15th peacekeeping brigade, command and equipment. The servicemen have already moved to the areas of the peacekeeping mission in Karabakh. In total, 1960 Russian servicemen will be stationed in the region.
