More than 4 thousand Moscow residents who have recovered from the coronavirus have become plasma donors with antibodies to COVID-19. This was announced on Thursday, October 22, at the capital’s operational headquarters for the control and monitoring of the coronavirus situation.

“More than 4 thousand Muscovites who have had coronavirus have become blood plasma donors. Some donated plasma several times — more than 10% of the total number of donors, ”the headquarters said.

A person who recovered from the coronavirus, aged 18 to 55, who does not have chronic diseases, can become such a donor, the headquarters said. He must also have negative tests for HIV, hepatitis B and C. More detailed information is available on the website of the Moscow Department of Health.

It is noted that blood plasma transfusion with antibodies to coronavirus infection is one of the treatments for COVID-19. It is used in cases of moderate to severe disease. After this procedure, the likelihood of a worsening of the patient’s condition and his transfer to mechanical ventilation is almost halved.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has established incentive payments for plasma donors with COVID-19 antibodies in the amount of 5,000 rubles for 600 ml of plasma.

As of October 21 in Moscow, another 2,365 patients have recovered from the coronavirus. Since the beginning of the epidemic in Moscow, 279,973 people have been cured of the coronavirus.
